Pike Brothers Season Opening May 2013

Last weekend we had our first Season Opening in our new Pike Brothers headquarters. Despite the terrible weather we were amazed how many people came to visit us. Even our teamrider Axel and our photographer Jan came from the far north of Germany. So a big thank you for all the support!

For all of you that couldn’t make it, here are some impressions:

Jeansmuseum Zurich

Jeans, that have been worn for several years, are like good friends to their wearer, nothing could be more comfortable. But when the jeans have been worn out to the point that they can no longer be worn, the question arrises what to do with these trusted pairs of pants. Throwing them away seems heartless, but there is a solution to this problem: Donate them to the Jeansmuseum in Zurich!

This opened its doors in 2002 after its owner Ruedi Karrer collected denim garments for 29 years. Now the museum has over 12.000 worn out denims (7.000 jeans, 5.000 jackets) from the 1950s till today on display.

The collection consists of:

Jeans, jackets, Shirts, etc. with extreme traces of wear from craftsmen, rockers, punks etc.
Jeans- and work clothes with patches, paintings, rivets, etc.
Raw denim, no matter how worn out
Everything before 1990
Unusual or rare brands
Accessories like denim caps, T-Shirts, Jeans teddy bears etc.
Literature, magazine articles or other information on jeans topics
Marketing items, jeans bags, posters, banners, Bandanas, figurines, signs etc.

Next to several new objects, extremly worn out items are portrayed for the fading in the respective denim evolution. That is why the museum encourages people to wear their favorite pieces as long as possible, and never to throw these away. They will find a safe haven and will be enjoyed by others till the end of their lifetime!

Team Edelweiss

As Pike Brothers is deeply routed in the Hot Rod and vintage motorcycle scene, we are always interested in teams that stand out. Team Edelweiss from Germany is one of them:

The team consists of three guys: Oliver, Andreas and his son Lienard – all with last name Weiss (Oliver and Andreas are not related, this seems to be fate).

The first driver is Oliver, a trained master mechanic, who aquired his racing experience through working as a mechanic in 24-hour-races for Opel (Vauxhall). He drives the “Captain”, a ’39 Oldsmobile Business Coupè, for team Edelweiss on the dirttracks of the scene. The car got its name “Captain” as it played a background role in “Captain America”.

The second driver is Andreas, who is also a mechanic, but is also characterized by his 40 years of motorcycle riding and technological experience. He is in charge of driving in the 1/8 mile races with the “Captain” and a ’58 Harley-Davidson FL Shovelhead.

The last driver is Lienard, the apprentice of the group. He is learning about all the technical “stuff” from the masters. He drives in the acceleration races and will be taking part in a dirttrack race this season with his ’52 Maico.

Since 2007 all three of them have been entering Race 61 in Finowfurt with their own vehicle – until 2012 this was the only race they had been participating in.

Last year the “Captain” joined the team, then it was decided to take part in all pre ’61 races. Oliver drove the “Captain” in the Dust Bowl Challenge (1st place in the show race), Race 61, Rust’n'Dust (1st place in the car class), Headbanging and the Hindenberg race. In the last race there was an accident caused by a driving mistake and the “Captain” was damaged, but the team has been very busy last winter and are just in time to participate in the season opening of Schenkenhorst.

A creative way to use your trash can

With our “Ultimate Kustom Barbecue”-contest in mind a customer of ours sent us these pics of his one of a kind barbecue. You can grill one whole suckling pig and up to 12 chickens at once in this construction. We think it is an amazing piece of ingenuity, thumbs up!

This store is the oldest trekking shop in Regensburg, Germany. The owner Stephan is an outdoor traveller himself and has spent several years in Africa. He appreciates everything that is long lasting and of high quality, this is reflected in his shop. Although the roots of the Trekkingladen are in the outdoor area, its assortment goes beyond this and includes brands like Trabert, Fjäll Räven, Opinel, Wetterlings and of course Pike Brothers.
