The Timeless Hamburg Blue Stripe: A Maritime Workwear Tradition
Hamburg Blue is a classic, maritime-inspired pattern often associated with the seafaring tradition of the city of Hamburg. It is a vertical stripe pattern, typically in shades of blue, originally found on sailors' shirts. Through its connection with seafaring, this classic pattern made its way into workwear. Especially in the northern Metal and Ship Building Industry.
Since the early 20th century, the Hamburg Stripe has been used in two fabric qualities for workwear: the slightly lighter "Elephant Skin" fabric, weighing 520 g/sqm, and the heavier "Deutschleder" variant. The latter has a fabric weight of 600 g/sqm and requires some breaking in.
The beauty of both variants is that once they are worn in, they develop a wonderful patina. Thanks to their high weft density, both fabrics are extremely abrasion-resistant and durable.
We offer the following items in the Hamburg Stripe:
1958 Roamer Pant, Made from 520g Elephant Skin
1943 CPO Shirt, Made from 520g Elephant Skin
