USN Watch Cap. Not just a knit cap – THE knit cap!

The USN Watch Cap has its origins in the early 20th century as part of the standard-issue cold weather gear for sailors in the United States Navy. Designed for warmth and practicality, the cap is made from tightly knit wool, providing insulation against harsh maritime conditions. Sailors would wear the cap during long watches on deck, where they were exposed to freezing winds and cold temperatures. It became especially popular after the war due to the fact that many sailors were issued with the watch caps and started to wear them in civilian life.

The design is simple and functional and with an upside down label. Why is that? Simple answer. Original Caps were folded twice. So when you were looking inside the brim you could read the label.
