Herringbone Twill – more than a vintage weaving pattern

Our HBT, or herringbone twill, is a weaving pattern that dates back to the Romans. It has a distinct pattern and, as the name implies, comes from the skeleton of the herring fish. Up until the 19th century, it was mostly made of wool and hence associated with more expensive fabrics like tweed. However, with the Industrial Revolution, more and more cotton was used in textiles, and herringbone was also made from cotton fabric, making it lighter and more comfortable to wear in warmer temperatures.

Today, herringbone twill, or HBT, is a constant element of our collection because of its rich history and comfort when it comes to garments.
